Prints and Illustrated Books

The Museum's collection includes almost 40,000 historical and contemporary prints and books covering the history of modern art in both range and depth. Featured are examples of such traditional techniques as lithography, etching, screenprinting, and woodcuts, as well as newer, more experimental forms of printmaking. The working process unique to the medium is reflected by the inclusion of numerous states of prints by many artists. Among the collection's highlights are large concentrations of prints by Redon, Toulouse-Lautrec, Munch, the German Expressionists, Matisse, Picasso, Dubuffet, Jasper Johns, and Louise Bourgeois.
